SIBU: A 31-year old man has been sentenced to 10 years’ jail and six strokes of the cane by the Sessions Court on Friday (Sept 17) for three counts of raping a minor.
Judge Marutin Pagan, in passing the sentence, ordered that the accused, Azizie Tamizie Abun, serve the sentence from the date of arrest which is on Sept 8, 2021.
According to the brief facts of the case, the accused raped the vitim, a girl aged 12 years and nine months, three times from July to September at his house in Kampung Bahagia Jaya, Teku.
The case only came to light when at 6pm on Sept 8, the girl’s father asked the victim why she had not been home two days earlier.
Her father suspected that the accused had raped her and lodged a police report.
A police team went to the accused’s house at 8.40pm the same day and arrested him.
The accused was charged under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code where the offence provides for imprisonment of not less than 10 years but not more than 30 years plus whipping.
