SOP to reopen houses of worship finalised on Monday

KUCHING, 1 Mei -- Menteri Perusahaan Perladangan Komoditi Datuk Seri Douglas Uggah Embas merangkap Anggota Parlimen Betong ketika temuramah dengan Bernama, baru-baru ini.

KUCHING: A standard operating procedure (SOP) on the reopening of houses of worship will be finalised on Monday (May 18).

The national unity ministry in a statement said a meeting will be convened on the morning of May 18 and chaired by the ministry’s chief secretary.

It also said that yesterday, an online meeting was held with 12 representatives of religious bodies nationwide and health ministry officers to discuss on the reopening of houses of worship during the conditional movement control order (CMCO) period.

“They (the representatives) will convey their feedback to the ministry on the selected religious houses in green zones which should be reopened on May 18,” the statement read.

The ministry said upon approval by the National Security Council (NSC) on May 19, an announcement will be made by Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

On Friday, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas who is also the minister in charge of Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) said the unit is still working out the SOP for religious gatherings in churches, temples and other houses of worship.
