Speed limit on federal and state roads reduced for CNY – movement of heavy vehicles also banned or limited

The works ministry has introduced that the velocity limit on federal and state roads can be reduced at the side of Ops Bersepadu and the highway security marketing campaign applied for the upcoming Chinese New Year festive interval.

During the interval of the operation, which started on January 25, the velocity limit on federal roads can be lowered from 90 km/h to 80 km/h whereas for state roads, will probably be reduced from 80 km/h to 70 km/h. These revisions will stay in place till February 8, when the operation involves a detailed, the ministry mentioned through a press release.

Separately, the ministry of transport has issued a directive forbidding heavy industrial vehicles from being on the highway two days earlier than (January 30 and 31) and two days after (February 3 and 4) Chinese New Year to avert visitors congestion and minimise mishaps with different vehicles.

Category 1 heavy vehicles, which incorporates car transporters, tippers and dump vans above 7,500 kg in addition to cement tankers and pole trailers, is not going to be allowed to ply the highway at any time through the 4-day interval. Meanwhile, Category 2 vehicles, which incorporates container lorries or lorries transporting items, is not going to be allowed on the highway from 12am to 8am on lately
