Spoiled food and broken promises: Caterer nabbed after 10 customers lodge reports

JOHOR BARU: A 50-year-old girl has been arrested for allegedly scamming at the very least 10 customers with claims of an (*10*) catering service.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat stated the girl allegedly charged customers RM8 per individual for her occasion catering providers.

“She advertised her services for weddings and engagement events on social media and her customers were mostly attracted by the low price she offered.

“One of her customers paid the suspect RM4,400 for an event with 500 people, inclusive of deejay services.

“However, on the day of the event on June 4, the suspect did not meet the agreed food quantity and the food sent to the event was spoiled.

“After the customer called to complain about the matter, the suspect promised to resend the food but it apparently never came,” he informed a press convention after attending a promotion ceremony for 118 police personnel at state police headquarters right here on Wednesday (June 8).

He stated such incidents triggered uneasiness to the customers and their visitors.

The girl was arrested on Monday (June 6), he stated.

As of Wednesday, 10 police reports involving a complete sum of RM53,380 have been lodged in opposition to her, he added.

“Her customers also shared their experiences on social media.

“I believe more customers involved in similar cases will come forward to lodge police reports after this.

“I urge the public to be careful about engaging services that charge low prices or those that sound too good to be true.

“Caterers usually charge at least around RM12 per person,” he stated, including that investigations are ongoing.
