Sri Lankan ministers resign as economic crisis escalates

COLOMBO (Reuters) – Several members of the cupboard in Sri Lanka, together with the prime minister’s son, have resigned, simply days after President Gotabaya Rajapaksa declared a state of emergency following protests over a deepening economic crisis.

“We handed our letters of resignation to the prime minister,” Education Minister Dinesh Gunawardena informed native media late on Sunday.

“The president and the prime minister will focus on and take related selections.”

It was not instantly clear if the whole cupboard or solely a number of the ministers had supplied to give up.

Youth and Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa, nephew of Gotabaya and the son of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, mentioned on Twitter on Monday that he had resigned with instant impact within the hope it would assist “set up stability for the folks and the federal government”.
