SIBU: Sarawakian students leaving for studies overseas will be able to receive their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine in the first two weeks of July.

State Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian(pic) said in a Facebook post on Wednesday (June 23) that they would get the second dose by the first week of August.

According to Dr Sim, the state expects to receive a significant number of vaccine doses by July.

“We have received numerous enquiries and requests from anxious students going to study overseas in September on getting vaccinated before leaving,” he said.

Dr Sim, who is also state disaster management committee adviser, said a procedure would be drawn up soon for these students to apply for early vaccination, including the supporting documentation required.

“Meanwhile, Sarawakians overseas who are planning to come home are advised to get either Pfizer or Sinovac (in their present locations) for the first dose, as both types are readily available in Sarawak,” he added.
