‘Stick to social media to send greetings for festive season’

KAPIT: Kapit folk have been called on to rely on social media to greet one another for Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Gawai Dayak.

Community leader Temenggong Wilfred Billy Panyau said greetings online will be suffice this year as ngabang or house to house visiting is not allowed under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).

“My children in Sibu will be celebrating this Gawai there. They will not come to Kapit.

“Likewise, I’ll stay back here alone during this coming Gawai celebration. I will not join my children in Sibu. I must set a good example as community leader.

“I advise the people working outside Kapit to stay put at their workplace. Don’t come back this year. For Dayaks, Gawai is a major celebration.

“Again, we have to strictly follow the directive given by the government on CMCO to contain and prevent the spread of Covid-19. After we have won the war against this invisible enemy, then family members and friends could always gather to celebrate. But in the meantime just live as usual till the day we’re allowed to do so,” he said.

He reiterated that it is vital to avoid house to house visiting.

“That doesn’t mean we forget our children, relatives, friends, and acquaintances. We all have access to social media, handphones with WeChat, WhatsApp, etc, to send our warmest greetings. The recipients will be appreciative,” he added.
