JOHOR BARU: In a bid to run from the police, three robbery suspects resorted to jumping off a flyover at the Skudai Highway here.

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the three were first spotted with another man in a blue Perodua Myvi on Jalan Seri Orkid, Taman Mutiara Rini here by a police patrolling unit at 4.45am on Tuesday (June 22).

He added that the suspects fled towards the Skudai Highway when they were signalled to stop for an inspection.

“During the chase, the suspects’ vehicle lost control and rammed into a road divider at the Jalan Tampoi flyover. While we were arresting the four suspects in the car, three of them attempted to escape by jumping off the flyover,” he said.

ACP Dzulkhairi said that all of the three suspects that jumped off the flyover sustained broken arms, fractured shoulders and abdominal wounds in the fall.

He added that all four suspects were unemployed individuals, aged between 22 and 30, and three among them possessed previous criminal records.

“We believe the suspects were involved in a house break-in on Jalan Bakti, Taman Mutiara Rini earlier, ” he said, adding that police also seized helmets, a radio, cutting equipment, hailers, gloves and tools found in the suspects’ vehicle.

ACP Dzulkhairi added that the three injured suspects were in a stable condition and were being treated for their injuries at Hospital Sultanah Aminah.

The case is being investigated under Section 457 and Section 186 of the Penal Code and Section 29(1) of the Minor Offences Act.
