DUBAI (Reuters) -U.S. forces carried out a “giant airborne operation” near Deir al-Zor in jap Syria on Monday at daybreak, Syrian state information company SANA stated.
The American forces landed within the city of Busayra, east of Deir al-Zor, and “kidnapped quite a few civilians”, it stated.
There was no unbiased affirmation of the report.
The province of Deir al-Zor, alongside the Iraqi border, is a strategic provide route for Iranian-backed militias who usually ship reinforcements into Syria to help President Bashar al-Assad in opposition to insurgents in search of to topple his household rule.
U.S. forces are deployed at a base in al-Tanf area, south of Deir al-Zor, as a part of fight mission in opposition to Islamic State militants who proceed to wage a low-level insurgency in Iraq and Syria.
