Tanzania’s Zanzibar vows to end child labor as it marks World Day Against Child Labor

DAR ES SALAAM, June 12 (Xinhua) — Tanzania’s Zanzibar authorities on Sunday vowed to end child labor as they marked the World Day Against Child Labor.

Mudrik Ramadhan Soraga, the Minister of State within the President’s Office liable for Labor, Economy and Investment, stated since 2005 authorities have been taking measures geared toward curbing child labor.

“The authorities has enacted legal guidelines that present for defense of youngsters in opposition to child labor,” Soraga advised a information convention.

He stated there are about 25,803 youngsters aged between 5 and 17 which are experiencing child labor within the Zanzibar archipelago.

About 2,256 youngsters, together with 840 women, have been rescued from child labor in numerous components of Zanzibar’s twin islands of Unguja and Pemba, stated Soraga.

The International Labour Organization began observing World Day Against Child Labor in 2002 to spotlight the plight of youngsters who’re the victims of child labour.
