KOTA KINABALU: A teacher was found dead not long after he was reported missing during a hiking programme at about noon Saturday (May 22) at Kg Entilibon in Sabah’s central Tongod district.
The man, identified as 29-year-old Jahir Korotok, had gone for a hike at the Tawai recreation park at about 8am with his friends but he was reported missing at around 11.45am.
The SK Linayukan Tongod teacher had apparently gotten separated from his friends and that was when they reported him missing to the authorities.
State Civil Defence officials involved in the search and rescue operation, together with firemen, forest rangers and villagers, said that Jahir was found unconscious not long after the report was made.
Medical officials at the scene later pronounced him dead.
Jahir’s body was only brought down and surrendered to the police for further action at about 5.55am Sunday (May 23) due to the weather and geographical conditions as it was slippery and quite a hike down.
Rescuers too had to wait for medical attendees to arrive for proper procedures to be taken before they could move the body.
The cause of death is still being investigated.
