Teen thief to do community service instead

PETALING JAYA: The High Court has overturned the sentencing of a youngster who tried to steal from a donation field at a mosque in Rawang.

Instead of a 10-day jail time period and a RM4,000 high quality imposed by the Magistrate’s Court on 19-year-old Daniel Iskandar, who was bathed like a corpse earlier than being handed to the police, Justice Abd Halim Aman commuted the sentence to 120 hours of community service over six months.

He mentioned this was determined after listening to submissions from deputy public prosecutor Norhana Sahat.

Last Monday, a video of the youth being “bathed like a corpse” went viral after he was caught making an attempt to steal from the donation field.

The act has left Malaysians divided, with some expressing assist and others saying it was inappropriate to punish him in such a way.Last Thursday, {the teenager} was slapped with a RM4,000 high quality and a 10-day jail time period. The punishment was meted out after he pleaded responsible to Magistrate Nik Mohd Fadli Anik Azlan.
