Three convicted militants recaptured after Kenya jail break

NAIROBI (Reuters) – Three convicted militants, one in all whom had taken half in a 2015 assault that killed 148 folks, had been recaptured on Thursday after they escaped from a most safety jail in Nairobi, the directorate of legal investigations stated.

The three males had been arrested as they tried to make their technique to Somalia and had been now being introduced again to the Kenyan capital, the Director of Prison Investigations, George Kinoti, advised Reuters.

The escapees included Mohamed Ali Abikar, sentenced to 41 years for a 2015 assault on Garissa College in japanese Kenya that killed 148 folks, largely college students.

The 2 different escapees from Kamiti Most Safety Jail had been Joseph Juma Odhiambo, jailed for making an attempt to hitch Somali militant Islamist group al Shabaab in 2019, and Musharaf Abdalla Akhulunga, arrested for his participation in a foiled 2012 assault on parliament.

Police had described all three escapees as “harmful” and provided a 60 million Kenyan shilling ($535,240) reward for data that might result in their recapture.

The group raised suspicions once they sought instructions to Boni Forest, near the Somali border, the Day by day Nation reported. The escapees appeared dishevelled and one was limping, the Day by day Nation stated, quoting witnesses.

On Wednesday, President Uhuru Kenyatta sacked the nation’s prisons boss Wycliffe Ogallo over the escape, Kenyatta’s workplace stated in a press release.

Eight individuals who labored on the jail had been arraigned on Tuesday over their position within the escape, in keeping with a doc from the Director of Public Prosecutions seen by Reuters.
