PETALING JAYA: Police are investigating Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed for allegedly breaking Covid-19 standard operating procedure (SOP), after pictures of him being at a cafe were seen.

It is understood that the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of Economics Affairs had gone to a cafe in Kampung Kalai in Jeli, Kelantan, to meet a young entrepreneur running his business under lockdown restrictions.

In a statement released by his office on Sunday (June 27), Mustapa visited the cafe at 5.30pm on Saturday (June 26), where the 26-year-old entrepreneur showed him how he continued running his cafe that served western cuisine using social media.

“Datuk Seri Mustapa admitted that he was at the Alfath Cafe in Kampung Kalai Jeli, where he was also served food,” his office said.

Mustapa, who is also Jeli MP, was later contacted by Jeli OCPD Deputy Supt Ahmad Arifin on Sunday afternoon to inform him that investigation papers had been opened to look into the incident.

Mustapa also apologised for breaking SOP and will leave it to the police to take further action.
