KUALA LUMPUR: Police have dismissed a video showing traffic congestion near the Jalan Duta toll plaza, which was supposedly due to people rushing to return to their hometown just before the nationwide lockdown started on June 1.

The video, which shows a 3km crawl, has since gone viral on social media.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief Asst Comm Zulkefly Yahya said the incident occurred at about 12.30pm on Monday (May 31).

“The main reason behind the traffic jam was stringent checks at a roadblock near the toll plaza.

“The police had to ensure that motorists adhere to the Covid-19 standard operating procedure (SOP),” he said in a statement on Wednesday (June 2).

The motorists checked had the relevant letters for inter-state travel, he added.

“A total of 4,536 vehicles were inspected that day.

“We believe many motorists were on the road to settle urgent matters before the lockdown began on Tuesday (June 1),” he added.
