U.N. worker killed in attack on peacekeeping convoy in Mali

BAMAKO (Reuters) – Unidentified armed males attacked a convoy belonging to the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Mali on Friday, killing one civilian worker and wounding one other, the mission stated.

The convoy was travelling from the northern metropolis of Kidal to Gao and got here underneath fireplace about 100 km (62 miles) northeast of the city of Bourem, the mission stated in a press release on Twitter.

Armed assaults by Islamist militants and different teams are widespread throughout huge swathes of Mali, regardless of a heavy presence of worldwide troops. The U.N. mission MINUSMA has deployed about 13,000 troops to attempt to comprise the violence.

MINUSMA has recorded greater than 250 fatalities because it began in 2013, making it probably the most harmful U.N. peacekeeping mission in the world.

There was no phrase on the nationality of the individuals killed and injured.
