UK sends war crimes experts to Ukraine – Foreign Office

LONDON (Reuters) – Britain stated on Friday it was sending experts to assist Ukraine with gathering proof and prosecuting war crimes, with a group due to arrive in Poland in early May.

Ukraine says it’s investigating some 7,600 potential war crimes and no less than 500 suspects following Russia’s Feb. 24 invasion of its neighbour.

“Russia has introduced barbarity to Ukraine and dedicated vile atrocities, together with in opposition to ladies. British experience will assist uncover the reality and maintain (Russian President Vladimir) Putin’s regime to account for its actions,” Foreign Secretary Liz Truss stated.

The announcement comes as Truss travels to The Hague to meet with International Criminal Court President, Judge Piotr Hofmanski, and her Dutch counterpart Wopke Hoekstra.

“The specialist group will help the Ukrainian authorities as they collect proof and prosecute war crimes and can embrace experts in battle-associated sexual violence,” stated a overseas workplace assertion.

Moscow calls its actions a “particular operation” geared toward degrading Kyiv’s army energy and defending Russian-speakers residing within the east of the nation.
