Uphold principles of accurate, ethical news reporting, Comms Minister tells media practitioners


KUALA LUMPUR: Media practitioners have to uphold the principles of correct and ethical news reporting always, says Tan Sri Annuar Musa (pic).

The Communications and Multimedia Minister mentioned this may improve the integrity of the media itself.

He added that the ministry, by way of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) particularly, had obtained complaints about media practitioners involving standard media, on-line media and social media violating ethics and legal guidelines.

“In this regard, I imagine all media practitioners have the power to make their very own assessments and the ethical power to all the time abide by the legislation and keep journalism ethics in each news report.

“Although the federal government respects the precept of press freedom, all events have to be accountable for the news and experiences (they) publish,” he mentioned in a press release Wednesday (Feb 2).

Annuar mentioned any reporting that violated the rights of others or the legislation have to be prevented as a result of it might end result within the media going through authorized motion beneath the Penal Code. – Bernama
