KUALA LUMPUR: There is an pressing need for the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry to instantly make amendments to the Persons with Disabilities (PwD) Act 2008 and the Care Centres Act 1993, says Senator Datuk Ras Adiba Radzi (pic).

The OKU Sentral president, who represents individuals with disabilities in the Dewan Negara, mentioned the ministry should act proactively in addressing points involving the abuse of youngsters with disabilities in order that such circumstances don’t recur.

“I hope circumstances of abuse involving youngsters, particularly PwDs, shall be introduced ahead to Parliament’s Special Select Committee on Women’s and Children’s Affairs.

“Appropriate punishment should be imposed on offenders no matter the standing of the one who violates the rights of PwD.

“I additionally request that the Social Welfare Department shuts down childcare centres and houses for PwD and senior residents that aren’t registered with the division,” she mentioned in a press release Monday (April 11).
