KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal has dismissed speculation that the party would be aligning with the Perikatan Nasional-led Federal government.

“It is not true,” he said in response to speculation by the Sarawak Report website that Warisan might team up with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s recently-registered Pejuang and throw their combined weight behind Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

“We are not working or going to work with Perikatan,” said Shafie, whose party has been silent since the Umno supreme council decided to withdraw its support for Muhyiddin as prime minister last week.

Sarawak Report claimed that former prime minister Dr Mahathir had agreed to support Muhyiddin, whose Perikatan coalition government’s majority in Parliament had become unclear following the Umno announcement.

With Umno, Perikatan has a slender majority with 115 MPs and speculation is rife that anywhere from five to 12 Umno MPs might observe the supreme council decision and withdraw support for Muhyiddin.

According to Sarawak Report, four MPs from Pejuang and eight from Warisan would support Muhyiddin’s Perikatan coalition to fill the void.

“The report is erroneous,” Shafie said on Thursday (July 13).
