PETALING JAYA: A total of 94 water tankers have been mobilised by Air Selangor to critical premises and areas affected by the latest unscheduled water disruption.

“Water sampling tests will be done before the water tankers depart to their designated points to ensure consumers get clean and safe treated water,” said Air Selangor in a Facebook post on Saturday (Sept 4) morning.

“We understand consumers’ need for clean water, especially with the increase of Covid-19 cases. Every effort is being taken to minimise the impact of the disruption.

“We are conducting investigations with Lembaga Urus Air Selangor (Luas) to identify the source of the raw water pollution along Sungai Semenyih and its tributaries and will carry out immediate mitigation actions.” Air Selangor said.

A total of 463 areas in five regions in the Klang Valley are experiencing an unscheduled water disruption due to a shutdown of the Sungai Semenyih Water Treatment Plant (WTP) following odour pollution on Friday (Sept 3).

The affected regions are: Petaling (172 areas), Hulu Langat (54 areas), Sepang (194 areas), Putrajaya (23 areas) dan Kuala Langat (20 areas).

Air Selangor had alerted consumers via social media that the Sungai Semenyih WTP had to be shut down at 5.15pm yesterday (Sept 3), following an odour pollution incident detected at the Sungai Semenyih raw water source.

According to a Facebook post by Luas, odour pollution of up to 2 TON (threshold odour number) was detected at RMS Kg Sg Buah at 4pm Friday.

Meanwhile, Air Selangor said in a separate post that: “A reading of 0 TON was recorded three times in a row at Sungai Semenyih at 6am Saturday morning.

“We are now in the process of restarting the water treatment process at the Sungai Semenyih WTP.”

At press time, Air Selangor has not indicated when water supply would resume in the affected areas.

Updates will be posted on its official communication channels, such as Air Selangor app, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts and via hentitugas.airselangor.com
