KOTA KINABALU: A pregnant lady suffered a miscarriage and her husband was injured in a boat collision off Semporna.
The 22-year-old native lady is in a secure situation following the accident, whereas her 34-year-old husband is recovering from accidents attributable to the speedboat’s engine.
Both are presently recovering on the Tawau district hospital after receiving preliminary remedy on the Semporna hospital following the incident at round 2pm on Monday (May 2).
Semporna OCPD Supt Farhan Lee Abdullah added in a press release on Tuesday (May 3) that the lady was 25 weeks pregnant on the time of the accident.
Supt Farhan stated police in Pulau Bum Bum obtained the report at 11.30am on Tuesday, and it’s realized that the couple had been in a boat from Semporna that was heading to Kampung Hayang in Pulau Bum Bum when their boat collided with one other vessel.
Their boat then collided with one other being pushed by a person in his 20s, and this brought on the couple to fall into the ocean.
“They were rescued by the public before being sent to the hospital,” he added.
Police have now launched a hunt for the suspect in the second boat who’s believed to have fled following the collision and are calling for witnesses of the incident to come back ahead.
“We advise boat owners to be more careful when using their vessels especially in crowded area, as well as having prepared safety equipment like life jackets,” added Supt Farhan.
