Just over four in 10 owners of Sony’s two most recent PlayStation games consoles are women. Back in the days of the original PlayStation, just 18% of PS1 owners were women.
During a presentation to media and investors last week, Sony Interactive Entertainment revealed data including one particularly interesting statistic: 41% of PS4 and PS5 console owners are female.
According to Sony’s figures, female interest in the Japanese tech firm’s consoles has grown significantly since the 1990s.
In fact, female ownership of the first PlayStation console stood at just 18%.
Sony hosted an IR day for their Game & Network Services segment (aka PlayStation). Some interesting numbers and news. Like the increasing amount of female players. pic.twitter.com/lH8el15eRy

The figures seem to suggest that the world of video games is decidedly less male-dominated than was once the case. Could it finally be time to put stereotypes around guys and gaming to rest? Watch this space. – AFP Relaxnews
