KUALA LUMPUR: Sixteen Vietnamese women believed to be guest relation officers (GRO), who offer sex services, were detained along with six men following a raid at a bungalow in Taman Yarl, Jalan Klang Lama here.

Following a tip-off and surveillance, officers from the Bukit Aman Anti-Vice, Gambling and Secret Societies Division (D7) raided the house at about 8.45pm on Tuesday (Oct 12).

Bukit Aman D7 principal assistant director Senior Asst Comm Mohamad Noor Yusof Ali said 16 Vietnamese women, aged between 21 and 31, were detained during the operation.

“We also detained six local men.

“One of them is an agent while five others were transporters for the women,” he told reporters.

The syndicate would advertise their services through the Telegram app, he added.

“When a client agrees to a price, the agent would determine the location for the women to be transported to.

“We believe the women are also involved in prostitution activities,” he said.

The syndicate would prepare a condominium unit or a bungalow for the women to perform their sex services, SAC Mohamad Noor said.

“The bungalow that we raided is rented for RM3,600 a day.

“It is equipped with various items, including disco balls, a pool table and a karaoke set,” he added.

The GRO is tasked at accompanying the customers while they indulge in drinks and entertainment, he said.

“Each client is charged between RM1,300 and RM2,500 per woman,” he said.

SAC Mohamad Noor said the syndicate would change their locations often to avoid detection.

“The location will be based on the number of customers.

“If there are a lot of customers that need a large number of GROs, then the syndicate would choose a big premises such as the bungalow with seven rooms that we raided,” he said.

A total of 15 out of the 16 women detained had valid travel documents, he added.

“We are investigating further to track down the syndicate’s mastermind or pimp.

“We also aim to uncover how long the syndicate has been operating,” he said.
