(Reuters) – Ethiopia’s Letesenbet Gidey smashed the ladies’s half marathon world document on Sunday, ending in a single hour, two minutes and 52 seconds on the Valencia Half Marathon Trinidad Alfonso EDP.

The 23-year-old Gidey, who can also be the world 5,000 metres (14:06.62) and 10,000 metres (29:01.03) record-holder, shaved greater than a minute off the earlier half marathon mark of 1:04:02 set by Kenya’s Ruth Chepngetich this 12 months.

“I am so completely satisfied to interrupt the world document in my first half marathon and my first race for the NN Operating Group. Gracias Valencia,” Gidey, the Tokyo Olympics 10,000 metres bronze medallist, mentioned.

Her 10 kilometre break up was 29:45 minutes, round 35 seconds higher than the tempo of Chepngetich when she set the document, and she or he steadily improved in sunny situations to cruise to victory.

Within the males’s race, Kenya’s Abel Kipchumba made a late cost to win in 58:07 minutes, shifting him to sixth on the world all-time listing.

Fellow Kenyan Rhonex Kipruto was second in 58:09 and Daniel Mateiko was third in 58:26 as the highest seven males completed the World Athletics Elite Label highway race inside 59 minutes.
