(Reuters) – Olympic dash champion Lamont Marcell Jacobs has withdrawn from this month’s Diamond League conferences in Rome and Oslo after failing to get better from a muscle damage, Italy’s athletics federation mentioned.

The 27-year-old, who turned the primary Italian to win Olympic 100 metres gold in Tokyo final 12 months, picked up the damage throughout his victory within the 100m in Savona, Italy in May and in addition missed the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene final weekend.

“Today’s investigations have proven that Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs has not totally recovered from the muscle downside recognized final week,” the federation mentioned in an announcement late on Wednesday.

Jacobs, who ended his 2021 season early citing exhaustion, mentioned he hoped to be slot in time for the world championships in July.
