Boat Race 2022: Oxford win men’s race after Cambridge win women’s event

Oxford gained the men’s Boat Race for the primary time since 2017 after Cambridge gained the women’s event in document time.

The Dark Blues took the 167th men’s crown in 16 minutes and 47 seconds.

In the women’s race, Cambridge beat Oxford by greater than two lengths in 18 minutes and 22 seconds to increase their profitable streak to 5 years.

The 2022 Boat Race marks the return of the event to the Thames in London for the primary time since 2019 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The 2020 version was cancelled, whereas the 2021 event happened with out spectators on the Great Ouse in Ely due to Covid restrictions.

Oxford have now gained 81 Boat Races, narrowing the hole with Cambridge’s 85, whereas within the women’s, Cambridge have gained 46 editions to Oxford’s 30.

Oxford rower Tobias Schroder instructed BBC Sport: “Lots of years attempting, a number of years failing. I’m simply so happy with what we did there.”

Speaking after profitable the women’s race, Cambridge president Bronya Sykes mentioned: “It was insane, it was quick, it was emotional multi functional go.

“I’m utterly overwhelmed.”

Cox Jasper Parish added: “I took a threat early on to get forward of them. It paid off because the race went on.

“Full credit score to Oxford, they raced rather well and pushed us proper to the tip.

“I’m so happy with what we have executed.”
