Cops arrest nine; cripple car theft syndicate targeting Proton Wira

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested eight males and a girl after crippling a car theft syndicate that focused Proton Wira automobiles.

The syndicate would steal the automobiles with a view to cannibalise them for components which might be offered to consumers or to scrap yards.

Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Beh Eng Lai stated police carried out a sequence of raids between Feb 9 and Feb 15 at Sentul, Petaling Jaya and Rawang.

“We arrested eight males and a girl aged between 24 and 38 years previous throughout these raids.

“The arrests led to the seizure of 4 Proton Wira automobiles which had been reported stolen,” he stated in a press release Thursday (Feb 17).

He stated the automobiles had been price an estimated RM24,000.

“We additionally seized 9 cell phones, car keys, Touch’n Go playing cards, Smart Tag gadgets, and instruments believed for use to steal automobiles.

“Our investigations revealed the syndicate was led by two of the suspects.

“They stole the automobiles with a view to strip them for components which might be offered to spare components retailers and consumers round Gombak,” he stated, including that the car batteries could be offered to scrap yards.

He stated all of the suspects had prior data for felony actions, whereas the primary suspect was a Prevention of Crime Act (Poca) detainee who had simply been launched.

“We have remanded six of the suspects to facilitate additional investigations whereas two others have been launched on bail and would act as witnesses.

“We have tied 5 car theft circumstances to the syndicate with 4 recognized in Kuala Lumpur and one case in Selangor,” he stated, advising the general public to at all times obey the legal guidelines with a view to keep public order and peace.

ACP Beh stated stern motion could be taken in opposition to anybody caught breaking the legislation.
