Cops to haul up 12 people eating in shed in Skudai

JOHOR BARU: Police will be calling up 12 people after a video showed them eating in a shed next to a river at a village in Skudai, here.

Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Rupiah Abd Wahid said that the video was uploaded by a Facebook user under the name of ‘Atan Abdul’ that clearly showed a group of people dining in groups.

“The act is clearly a violation of the standard operating procedure during Phase 1 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) that forbids any forms of social gathering.

“The group is also shown not adhering to the social distancing order aside from not wearing a face mask,” she said in a statement here on Monday (July 19).

She added that the case is investigated under Section 17(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 2021, which carries a fine of RM4,000.

It is also investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which carries a fine of RM50,000 or imprisonment for up to one year, or both.

Earlier, a two-minute-and-17-second video was uploaded on Sunday (July 18), showing a group of people eating at a shed believed to be located in Kampung Sepakat Baru, Skudai.
