Covid-19: 15,573 new cases, Selangor the highest with 7,672

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 15,573 new cases on Friday (July 23), bringing the nation’s cumulative total to 980,491 cases.

In a tweet on Friday, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also said Selangor recorded the most infections with 7,672 cases.

This was followed by Kuala Lumpur (2,063 cases), Kedah (937) and Johor (722) as well as Negri Sembilan (682), Penang (530) and Sabah (516).

Aside from these states, Sarawak (461), Pahang (457), Melaka (452), Perak (415), Kelantan (372) and Terengganu (229) also recorded new cases.

The Federal Territories of Putrajaya and Labuan recorded 41 and 21 new cases respectively, while Perlis recorded three new cases.

In the same 24-hour period, there were 144 fatalities, bringing the death toll to 7,718. There were also 10,094 recoveries, which means 825,387 have recovered from the disease nationwide. There are still 939 patients in intensive care units, with 456 requiring ventilator support.
