PETALING JAYA: About 72% of the new Covid-19 cases in Selangor were diagnosed from tests conducted in private clinics or labs, says Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The Health director-general said that the same was observed in several other states.

“This indicates that the level of awareness has increased to conduct Covid-19 tests, especially if there are symptoms,” he said in a statement on Sunday (July 25).

Of the 8,500 new cases detected in Selangor, Dr Noor Hisham said 4,884 cases (57.46%) were screenings of close contacts while 3,440 cases (40.47%) were from other screenings and another 175 from cluster screenings.

Malaysia reported another 17,045 infections, bringing total cases to 1,013,438.

There were also another 92 deaths, with a cumulative of 7,994 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic last year.
