PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 68 total Covid-19 fatalities on Wednesday (Oct 13), bringing the cumulative number of deaths due to the coronavirus to 27,593 since the pandemic began.

According to the Health Ministry’s CovidNow website, the number of brought-in-dead cases recorded on Wednesday was 12.

The ministry’s GitHub data repository also recorded only one death on Wednesday while the rest were backlog cases.

No new deaths were reported in Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya.

On Oct 13, Malaysia reported 7,950 new Covid-19 cases and 10,832 recoveries.

The number of active infections currently stands at 106,047 cases, where 77.9% are those with mild infections and undergoing home quarantine.

Another 15,228 (14.4%) are those under isolation at low-risk quarantine facilities (PKRC).

Some 7.0% or 7,463 individuals are in hospital due to Covid-19, of which 712 are in intensive care units.

The national ICU utilisation rate is currently at 60.1%.

States with less than 50% ICU utilisation rate are Pahang at 49.2%, Kedah (48.6%), Perlis (42.1%), Melaka (41.3%), Negri Sembilan (34.5%) and Labuan (13.0%).

The ICU utilisation rate in Penang is currently the highest in the country at 75.4%.
