Covid-19: Nine new clusters, highest number of cases linked to Kota Damansara care centre cluster

PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry has identified nine new Covid-19 clusters, bringing the active numbers to 794.

Of the clusters reported on Monday (Oct 11), four involved communities, two linked to workplaces, two high-risk groups and one education cluster.

In its daily Covid-19 update, the ministry reported the highest number of cases was from the high-risk group involving a care centre at Jalan Pekaka 8 in Kota Damansara, Selangor.

The cluster involved staff and residents of the centre, which had 27 cases.

A workplace in Seremban, Negri Sembilan had 11 cases out of the 44 people tested.

Meanwhile the number of clusters which had ended, was 4,803.

On Monday, the country reported 6,709 new infections, including six imported cases.

The locally transmitted cases involved 6,454 Malaysians and 249 foreigners.

Of the reported cases, 762 are in intensive care.

Cases requiring ventilation numbered 398 of which 298 are Covid-19 cases, 100 are suspected, probable and cases under investigation.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the number of recoveries exceeded new cases with 10,833 reported.

The cumulative number of Covid-19 cases reported since the pandemic started last year is 2,346,303.

In his daily statement, Dr Noor Hisham said that of the new cases reported, 6,565 or 97.9% are those in categories 1 and 2, with mild infections.

The number of cases in categories 3, 4 and 5 are 144 or 2.1%.

Putrajaya recorded the highest infectivity rate, or RO (R-naught) at 1.05 while Labuan’s RO is zero.
