Covid-19: Outbreak at Klang dialysis centre among 20 new clusters

PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry registered 20 new Covid-19 clusters found across the country on Monday (May 24).

Eight of the new clusters are outbreaks discovered at workplaces.

One of them is the Industri Pengkalan Balak cluster in Melaka, which has so far confirmed 146 positive cases.

The cluster involved workers of a factory at Pengkalan Balak in Alor Gajah who had to undergo a targeted screening exercise.

A total of 641 individuals have been screened so far.

Another six new clusters have been classified as community outbreaks.

This includes the Kampung Padawan cluster in Papar, Sabah, which is linked to a funeral-related event held from May 17 to May 19.

The index case is a 51-year-old woman who developed symptoms on May 19, before testing positive for Covid-19 on May 24.

To date, 10 positive cases under the cluster have been confirmed after 154 were tested.

Three new clusters have been linked to religious activities, including the Taman Setia Jaya cluster in Seremban.

So far, 47 cases have been detected under this cluster after 66 people were screened.

One new cluster – named the Jalan Jed cluster – has been linked to an outbreak at a dialysis centre in Bandar Parklands, Klang.

The index case is a 65-year-old woman who tested positive on May 24 after she underwent a screening for close contacts.

So far, 14 people have been confirmed as positive under the cluster.

One new cluster, which has 19 confirmed cases, is linked to an outbreak at a school in Raub, Pahang.

The index case is a 14-year-old student who developed symptoms on May 8 and tested positive on May 19.

A total of 207 staff members and students of the school have undergone screening.

One cluster – named the Dermaga Sembilan cluster – has been categorised as an imported cluster.

The cluster involves the crew of a vessel that is docked at Pasir Gudang port.

About 19 positive cases have been detected from crew “signing-off” screening.
