(Reuters) -India’s Virat Kohli has stepped down as captain of the test aspect following their 2-1 collection defeat by South Africa, the participant stated in an announcement on Saturday.

“It’s been seven years of laborious work, toil and relentless perseverance on a regular basis to take the group in the correct route. I’ve performed the job with absolute honesty and left nothing on the market,” Kohli wrote on Twitter.

“Everything has come to a halt at some stage and for me as test captain of India, it is now. There have been many ups and likewise some downs alongside the journey, however by no means has there been an absence of effort or lack of perception.”

Kohli, 33, gave up the Twenty20 captaincy in September and he was changed as one-day worldwide skipper in December, with opener Rohit Sharma taking up in each codecs.

Kohli, who took over the reins in 2014, led India in 68 checks, profitable 40 matches and dropping 17.
