EMCO: Number of people allowed to pray at mosque or surau limited to 12 in Perak

IPOH: The number of people allowed to pray at mosques and surau in the state is limited to 12, but only consisting mosque officials during the enhanced movement control order period.

Perak Islamic Religious Department director Datuk Mohd Yusop Husin said Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah has given his consent that only the mosque officials and the parish (kariah) committees could perform prayers at the respective premises.

He said for the Friday prayers, it can only be held at mosques and surau diri Jumaat (suraus that can be used for Friday prayers).

“For the other parishioners, the zohor afternoon prayers will be replaced by the Friday prayers in their own homes,” he said.

“As for the fardu and funeral prayers, these are allowed at all mosques and surau but limited to mosque officials and the parish committee,” he added.

Four districts in Perak would be placed under the enhanced MCO from May 22 until June 4.

These are Pengkalan Hulu; Larut, Matang dan Selama (Mukim Taiping); Kinta (Mukim Hulu Kinta, covering Ipoh, Lahat, Chemor and Tanjung Rambutan) and Muallim (Mukim Hulu Bernam Timur).

Mohd Yusop also said that muezzins must make an announcement to call on parishioners to pray at their respective home following the Azan.

He added that there would be no religious activities like classes or lectures to be held at mosques or surau.
