Engineer detained for assaulting traffic cop who issued him a summons

BALIK PULAU: An engineer was arrested for allegedly assaulting a traffic policeman who had issued him with a summons for utilizing a handphone whereas driving.

A video exhibiting a man assaulting a traffic policeman went viral on Tuesday (June 28).

Balik Pulau OCPD Supt Kamarul Rizal Jenal mentioned the 51-year-old man was stopped at Jalan Tun Dr Awang close to the Penang International Commercial City at about 6.30pm on Monday (June 27).

He mentioned the person was sad that he was slapped with a summons for utilizing a handphone whereas driving.

“The man had also ignored the police’s instructions to not make recordings with his mobile phone.

“The policeman told the man not to obstruct him from doing his job and tried to seize the handphone.

“The man resorted to violence and caused a commotion,” he mentioned in a assertion.

Supt Kamarul Rezal mentioned the 51-year-old man had been remanded till June 30.

The case is being underneath Section 353 of the Penal Code for utilizing prison pressure to impede a public servant from discharging his responsibility; Section 186 of the Penal Code for voluntarily obstructing a public servant from finishing up his duties and Section 188 of the Penal Code for violation of an order declared by a public servant.
