Export unit index rises 1.3%, import unit value index slips 0.5% in January 2022

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s export unit index remained optimistic for the fourth consecutive months since October 2021, rising 1.3 per cent in January 2022 in contrast with the earlier month, the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DoSM) stated.

However, the import unit value index dropped 0.5 per cent in January 2022 in contrast with the earlier month, stated chief statistician Malaysia Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin in a press release on the DoSM’s External Trade Indices (2010=100) January 2022 report launched at the moment.

On annual comparability, he stated each export unit value and quantity index grew 15.5 per cent and seven.0 per cent, respectively.

Meanwhile, the marginally decrease import unit value index was attributed to the deterioration in the index of mineral fuels of 4.6 per cent, equipment & transport gear of 0.3 per cent, and chemical substances of 0.2 per cent.

Likewise, the import quantity index fell by 0.04 per cent in January 2022 in contrast with the previous month, attributed to the deterioration in the index of miscellaneous manufactured articles of 4.2 per cent, equipment & transport gear of two.8 per cent, and inedible crude supplies of 0.3 per cent, he stated.

“The seasonally adjusted import quantity index in January 2022 elevated 1.5 per cent from 166.8 factors to 169.3 factors.

“On a year-on-year foundation, each the import unit value and quantity indices expanded 7.1 per cent and 18.1 per cent, respectively,” he stated.

The DoSM additionally reported that Malaysia’s phrases of commerce elevated 1.9 per cent month-on-month to 109.1 factors in January 2022.
