Flash floods in Alor Gajah, 40 victims evacuated

MELAKA: A reduction centre has been opened in Alor Gajah after a number of areas have been hit by flash floods following heavy rain since 3pm Friday (Dec 17).

Melaka Civil Defence Force director Lt Col (PA) Cuthbert John Martin stated the centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Durian Tunggal, which opened at 9pm on Friday, was at the moment sheltering 40 victims from 11 households.

“The victims are from Kampung (*40*) Tambun, Kampung Balai, Kampung Jeram and Kampung Taboh Naning, ” he stated in an announcement on Saturday (Dec 18).

Meanwhile, a number of areas in Melaka Tengah have been additionally hit by flash floods, however no evacuations have been reported.

The areas affected are Taman (*40*) Beruang Melawis, Batu Hampar Peringgit, Malim Jaya, Hang Tuah Mall, Kampung Hulu, Kampung Sungai Putat, Kampung Morten, Kampung Chetti and Empangan Klebang.
