Football: Soccer-Australia to play Jordan in warmup for World Cup playoffs

(Reuters) – Australia will heat up for subsequent month’s World Cup playoffs with a pleasant in opposition to Jordan in Qatar, Football Australia mentioned on Tuesday.

The June 1 match, at a venue to be confirmed, will likely be six days earlier than the Socceroos meet the United Arab Emirates in an Asian playoff at Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium in Doha.

The winner of the Asian conflict meets Peru in an intercontinental playoff on June 13 to resolve the fourth workforce to be part of world champions France, Denmark and Tunisia in Group D on the World Cup.

“Whilst we’re rivals on the pitch, off the pitch we have now developed good communication and understanding with the Jordan Football Association over the previous few years,” Australia coach Graham Arnold mentioned in an announcement.

“So it’s pleasing that we have now been ready to safe this match as we put together for our World Cup play-offs in Qatar.”

Australia met Jordan twice in Asian qualifying for the World Cup, successful each matches 1-0.

The Socceroos are bidding to attain the World Cup for a fifth time in succession.
