Football: Soccer-Everton appoint Ferguson as interim manager

(Reuters) – Everton have appointed Duncan Ferguson as caretaker manager after sacking Spaniard Rafa Benitez, the Premier League membership stated on Tuesday.

Benitez was dismissed on Jan. 16 following a 2-1 defeat at Norwich City which left the Merseyside membership six factors above the Premier League relegation zone in sixteenth place, after 19 matches.

Former Everton striker Ferguson, who scored 72 targets in 273 appearances throughout two spells on the membership, took cost of first-team coaching on Tuesday forward of a house match in opposition to Aston Villa on Saturday.

This shall be Ferguson’s second stint as interim manager of Everton, following a spell in December 2019 when he took cost of the membership after the sacking of Portuguese coach Marco Silva.

“An announcement on a everlasting managerial appointment shall be made sooner or later,” Everton stated in an announcement.
