ROME (Reuters) – Italy’s Justice Ministry has issued an international arrest warrant for former AC Milan and Brazil striker Robinho after the nation’s high courtroom confirmed his conviction for rape, a ministry spokesman stated on Wednesday.

The ministry has requested the worldwide police company Interpol to enact the warrant.

Robinho, whose full title is Robson de Souza, lives in Brazil. The South American nation doesn’t extradite its nationals, which suggests Robinho would solely face arrest if he travelled overseas.

A Milan courtroom in 2017 discovered Robinho and 5 different Brazilians responsible of gang raping a girl after plying her with alcohol in a discotheque. The conviction was confirmed by an appeals courtroom in 2020 and validated by Italy’s Supreme Court final month.

Robinho, 38, has at all times denied the cost.

He was capped 100 occasions by Brazil and performed for high European golf equipment Real Madrid and Manchester City in addition to AC Milan.
