IPOH: Garbage collection and cleaning services in most of the city will be affected after several workers from the concessionaire tested positive for Covid-19.

The areas affected include Tanjung Rambutan, Lahat, Taman Cempaka and Tambun.

Ipoh Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin said the affected workers have been ordered to undergo quarantine and this has disrupted the services.

“The Ipoh City Council would like to apologise for the disruption of services to the garbage collection and cleaning works in several areas in the city,” said Rumaizi

“Several workers from concessionaire LTC Alam Bersih Sdn Bhd tested positive for Covid-19 last week. Some of them are staying in a hostel and are close contacts. They have been ordered to be quarantined,” he added in a statement on Wednesday (Sept 15).

He also said that some of the city council’s town services department staff also tested positive and are also currently undergoing self-quarantine.

Rumaizi added that the scheduled garbage collection services will now be handled by the city council.

“We will ensure the garbage collection and cleaning works will not be affected much and will try to overcome the issue,” said Rumaizi

“We also hope for cooperation from city residents to put their domestic waste inside garbage bins to ease the collection process by city council workers,” he added.

For inquiries, the city council hotline is 05-255 1515, and a WhatsApp message can be sent to 019-550 3083 if there are issues related to garbage collection and cleaning work.
