Japan’s Bridgestone reports ransomware attack at U.S. subsidiary

TOKYO (Reuters) – Japanese tyre manufacture Bridgestone Corp on Friday stated its U.S. subsidiary has suffered a ransomware attack, simply weeks after suppliers of automaker Toyota Motor Corp reported related assaults.

Bridgestone in an announcement stated third-party unauthorised entry was made at Bridgestone Americas on Feb. 27, prompting it to close down its laptop community. It stated it later reconnected the community after a complete safety test.

An investigation later decided the incident to be a ransomware attack, Bridgestone stated.

The announcement comes about two weeks after Toyota’s foremost provider, Denso Corp, detected unauthorised entry through a ransomware attack at a gaggle firm that handles gross sales and engineering in Germany.

Another Toyota provider was hit by a cyberattack late final month, prompting Japan’s largest automaker to close down home manufacturing for at some point on March 1, affecting output of round 13,000 automobiles.
