JOHOR BARU: Johor is expected to receive some 10,000 doses of CanSino vaccine in the coming week, says Mentri Besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad.

Hasni said the single-dose vaccine would mostly be distributed to those living in the rural areas, including Orang Asli communities.

“I believe that we could further extend our vaccine outreach initiative once we receive the 10,000 single-dose CanSino vaccines next week.

“We will focus on the inoculation of rural communities as they may face difficulties in going to vaccination centres (PPV) due to lack of facilities and transposition,” he told reporters when met at a Covid-19 outreach programme here on Saturday (Sept 11).

He added the state government has also started planning and arranging efforts to vaccinate those who are below the age of 18.

“We have started planning for the best approach to vaccinate those who are below 18 years old. We will use our experience in vaccinating the adult population here to make sure that the inoculation of those below 18 would run smoothly.

“We expect the process to be much less challenging as the group will mostly be receiving the vaccine in higher education institutions or schools,” he said.

Based on the Special Committee on Covid-19 Vaccine Supply statistics, about 88.5% of the adult population in Johor have received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, while 59.2% are fully vaccinated as of Saturday.
