KOTA BHARU: The Johor Umno Liaison Body has the mandate to decide on the state polls, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob

Ismail Sabri, who can be Umno vice-president, nonetheless, stated any choice on the Johor state election should first receive the consent of the Johor Sultan.

“Regarding the Johor state election, as has been determined within the Umno Supreme Council, it is going to be left to the state Umno Liaison Body to talk about by way of preparation and choice making. Hence, we depart it to Johor Umno to decide whether or not to maintain the state election (or in any other case),” he stated.

Ismail Sabri stated this at a press convention after attending a particular assembly with members of Kelantan Umno Political Bureau right here on Saturday (Jan 22).

There has been speak that the Johor state election might be held following the loss of life of Kempas assemblyman Datuk Osman Sapian, not too long ago, leaving the Umno-led authorities with solely a one-seat majority within the Johor State Assembly.

Currently, the Johor State Assembly is led by Barisan Nasional with 28 seats which embody UMNO (14 seats), MIC (two), Bersatu (11) and PAS (one) whereas Pakatan Harapan has 27 seats, specifically DAP (14), PKR (seven) and Amanah (six). – Bernama
