K-pop group SF9 sets off on a new wave as a six-piece with ‘Scream’

Returning to the music scene after eight months, boy band SF9 embarked on a new journey as a sextet with the group’s eleventh EP, The Wave Of9, Wednesday.

Ahead of dropping the new album that night, six members of the initially nine-member group – Jaeyoon, Zuho, Dawon, Yoo Taeyang, Hwiyoung and Chani – performed a media showcase in Seoul.

Inseong and Youngbin had been absent because of their necessary navy enlistment, whereas Rwoon couldn’t participate within the actions because of a scheduling battle.

Leading off the new album is Scream, a dance R&B tune packed with the band’s iconic sensual sounds popping with summer season freshness.

“We tried to show our natural colors through the song. At the same time, it rings out the sporty and young vibe. We hope everyone can enjoy the song,” Chani stated throughout the occasion.

Hwiyoung added about Scream, “As we have not been to scream out loud with our fans due to Covid-19, the title bears our wishes to scream out loud and have fun on the stage. The song has points to watch out for in terms of the performance, so we picked it as our lead song.”

On Wednesday, the band carried out the lead single and one different new observe, OK OK, reside throughout the media showcase. Zuho took half in writing lyrics of 4 songs on the new album, together with OK OK.

Also included among the many album’s six tracks was Hwiyoung’s first self-written music, Butterfly, which tells the story of the bandmates’ youth.

“As the six members had to carry out what the nine members had done, the amount of parts and the responsibility put on each of the members have increased,” Jaeyoon stated about their expertise working within the new construction.

“But at the same time I think each of the members were able to show more of ourselves. I think we will be able to show a different side of SF9 as a six-piece.”

Debuting on the K-pop scene in 2016 with the one Feeling Sensation, the band has now entered its seventh 12 months. Turning the web page to the journey forward, the bandmates stated the new album will shed extra gentle on the person strengths and character of every of the six bandmates.

“We’re not yet used to the number ‘seven,’ perhaps because we’ve worked hard until now without looking back,” Yoo Taeyang stated. “As a team, we thought about the direction we should take with our performances. This time, we tried to find a way to better bring each of the members into the light.”

Yoo Taeyang continued, including his ideas on the “new wave” washing over SF9. “Personally, I feel we’re now at a stage the place we will develop as people.
