KUALA LUMPUR: A full investigation will be conducted into the death of a suspect during his arrest by city police.
City police chief Comm Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim said in a statement on Wednesday (Oct 6) that police had received a report lodged by the suspect’s niece at 3.15am.
“In the report, the complainant claimed that the police used excessive force during the arrest.
“The contingent’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) will conduct a comprehensive investigation on the report,” he said.
A post-mortem on the suspect would also be conducted, he added.
Previously, a flat in Sentul was raided on Tuesday (Oct 5) following suspicions of drug distribution activities in the area.
Methamphetamine and heroin were seized during the raid.
During the arrest, police said the suspect had difficulty breathing before he passed away.
In an earlier statement, Comm Azmi said that minimal force was needed to disarm the suspect, who had been holding a sickle.
