PASIR MAS: Any landowner in the Malaysia-Thailand border in Kelantan will be considered a “tekong darat” (floor coordinator) if they’re discovered to be involved in smuggling migrants, says Comm Datuk Hazani Ghazali (pic).

The Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order director stated they might be prosecuted below the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 and investigated below the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012.

Comm Hazani was commenting on the entry of Myanmar immigrants into the nation by means of unlawful bases on the Malaysia-Thailand border in Kelantan when met on the Pasir Mas Police headquarters right here Wednesday (Feb 2).

He added that the Royal Malaysia Police would maintain additional discussions with the legislature on the suitable punishment for tekong darat and unlawful immigrants who commit repeated offences.

“Migrant smuggling actions will not occur if there isn’t a ‘tali barut’ (informer) among the many locals and it doesn’t occur solely in Kelantan,” he stated. – Bernama
