As I wore it down, listening obsessively, I visualised tales of my mum’s childhood as I performed her songs from the Sixties. I imagined dancing at household gatherings I by no means went to, whereas listening to her hits from the 90s – and mourned my grandparents from afar as I consumed Lata’s tunes stuffed with sorrow.
